Rapist Cameron John Graham pleads guilty to escape

CCTV from BP Cue petrol station showing escapee Cameron John Graham.

The rapist who sparked a $450,000 manhunt after breaking out of a van while being transferred between prisons has pleaded guilty to fleeing custody.
Cameron John Graham, 22, was back in court today to face charges of escaping lawful custody, aggravated robbery and stealing a motor vehicle.
Appearing in Geraldton Magistrate's Court via a video link, Graham pleaded guilty to all the charges, and was remanded to be sentenced by a District Court judge in April.
Graham's escape prompted outrage, after it was revealed he was being transferred back to Perth after being allowed to spend time closer to his family just two months into an 11-year sentence for his brutal crime.
He had been jailed for breaking into the home of a young mother and raping her as her children slept nearby, before driving his victim to an ATM to demand cash.
Graham and fellow inmate Kelden Edward Fraser, 23, kicked their way out of a prison van at Geraldton Airport on January 3.
They were found at a bush camp near Mullewa 36 hours later after an extensive manhunt.
Corrective Services Minister Joe Francis said he believed private contractor Serco, who were guarding the men at time, should contribute to the payment for the search.
But opposition spokesman Paul Papalia said the government should release video of the escape taken from the on-board van prison cameras.
"These incidents have been shrouded in secrecy by both Serco and the Barnett Government," Mr Papalia said.

"Shocked to my core: escaped rapist's victim" - (12-1-2014)

Prisoners Cameron John Graham and Kelden Edward Fraser on run after escaping from security van

Cameron John Graham, 22, who escaped from a prison van in Geraldton.
Two prisoners are on the run after escaping from the back of a security van at Geraldton Airport today.
Cameron John Graham, 22, and Kelden Edward Fraser, 23, escaped from the security van at Geraldton Airport about 1pm while being transferred to Perth.
The men are believed to be travelling in a silver or grey Toyota Kluger, registration number 1DGZ 627, stolen from the airport.
The men are considered violent and should not be approached.
Fraser is 180cm tall, and also has a dark complexion, a medium build, brown eyes and black hair.
Graham is described as 170cm tall, has a dark complexion, a medium build, brown eyes and short brown hair.
He was sentenced to 11 years jail over a terrifying home invasion in Beeliar last year during which he raped a woman as her children slept nearby.
Graham repeatedly raped the woman in her home before forcing her to withdraw cash at an ATM.
Graham had just been released from prison several weeks before the incident.
He was on a three day drug bender when he broke into the woman's home.
After confronting the woman in her bedroom, Graham told her that her children, who were sleeping downstairs, would die if she did not comply.
He then forced her to undress before repeatedly raping her.
Graham then ordered the distraught woman to drive him to a nearby cash machine, where she withdrew $400.
In handing down the 11 year jail term District Court Judge Stevenson said: "The offending is of such gravity it is difficult to find words as a human being to describe the nature and depravity of it."
Graham was ordered to serve at least nine years in prison before being considered for parole.
Both were last seen wearing prison greens.
Anyone who sees the vehicle or either of the men should call police on 131 444.

Rapist told woman her children would die

A Perth man has been jailed for 11 years after breaking into a woman's home, threatening to murder her sleeping children and then brutally raping her - before forcing her to drive to an ATM and withdraw cash.
Cameron John Graham, 22, will have to serve at least nine years after the offence that Judge Christopher Stevenson said almost defied description.
It was just three weeks after Graham had been released from a previous prison stint, and after a three day drug bender, when he broke into the Beeliar home and found the woman with her six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter.
After confronting the woman in her bedroom, Graham told her the children, who were sleeping downstairs, would die if she did not comply.
He forced the 36-year-old to undress before repeatedly raping her in a walk-in wardrobe.
Graham then ordered the distraught woman to drive him to a nearby cash machine, where she withdrew $400.
As they returned to her house, Graham callously asked if he could "come back and do it again".
Judge Stevenson said Graham had subjected the woman to an ordeal no person should have to endure, being forced to choose between personal degradation or her children's safety.
"You behaved with increasing bravado and a diminishing concern or respect for her family," Justice Stevenson said. "The offending is of such gravity it is difficult to find words as a human being to describe the nature and depravity of it."
Perth District Court was told the woman and her family had since moved overseas to try escape the trauma of the attack.
In a victim impact statement, the woman said Graham had seemed to "delight" in the power he wielded over her.
For a string of offences including robbery, aggravated burglary and aggravated rape, Graham was jailed for a total of 11 years, with a parole period of nine years.
