Territory Child Porn Ring Linked To Europe

A child pornography ring uncovered in the Northern Territory has connections to Europe, it was learned last night.
Files found on computers seized during the massive Operation Sextant have led police to suspected pedophiles in Europe.
The Australian Federal Police are now believed to be working with police in Europe to identify and arrest people involved in the network. Federal police are also investigating whether any of the Australians arrested so far have breached any Commonwealth laws.
Police said there was no suggestion that any of the six Territory men arrested for their involvement in the child porn ring were involved in pedophilia.
But part of the European investigation is whether the sexual acts involving small children portrayed in the images seized were committed there.
None of the children in the more than 120,000 images seized during joint operation between the NT and Federal police operation have been identified.
A senior police source told the Northern Territory News the images seized from computers belonging to men in the ring were the most graphic he had ever seen.
"You wouldn't wish that on any child,'' he said.
"But I hope to God that none of those children are Australian.''
The child pornography ring was smashed by police after files found on the computer of Darwin junior cricket coach Terrance John Newman, 63, on October 17 led police to five other Territory men, two Victorian men and a Western Australian man.
The operation involved 18 NT detectives, three Federal agents and a computer crime forensic expert.
The pornographic images were gathered through 19 NT police raids across Darwin and an AFP raid, also carried out in Darwin.
