Child Sex Register Bid

THE State Government will not set up a public child sex offender register because police fear it would drive pedophiles underground and make them difficult to track.
At a State Parliament rally, Advocates for Survivors of Child Abuse spokeswoman Michelle Stubbs called for a register to be introduced. Ms Stubbs told about 150 people: "We deserve to know who they are and where they are." She said she was not calling for the street addresses of pedophiles to be registered, just the suburban area where they lived.
She did not want to encourage people to target pedophiles at their homes.
Liberal leader Paul Omodei has promised to introduce a public sex- offender register if he wins government.
