Hoppers Banned From Selling Luxury Home, Car

Disgraced celebrity tennis coach Gavin Hopper and his wife, Karen, have been banned from selling their home and car in case his sex abuse victim seeks a payout.
A County Court judge in Melbourne has ordered the freeze on the couple's luxury Hope Island home in Queensland and their 1999 Jeep Wrangler.
The partially- built waterfront property on the island's resort is worth about $1.1 million and the car is valued at $25,000.
The order, sought by the Department of Public Prosecutions, bans the Hoppers from liquidating their assets for a year from the date of his conviction. If the victim makes a successful application order to the court for crimes compensation within a year, the property could be seized and sold.
Mrs Hopper was named as a defendant in the restraining order because she has a financial stake in her convicted husband's frozen assets.
Hopper, a former Wesley College school teacher, was found guilty on Monday of multiple sex crimes against the woman, 33, when she was a student in the 1980s, He denied having a four- year sexual relationship with the schoolgirl from when she was 14 and is in jail awaiting sentencing.
A County Court jury convicted him of three counts of Indecent assault and six of gross indecency. He faces a maximum of five years in prison for each indecent assault count.

Hopper Guilty Of Child Sex Charges

Disgraced tennis coach Gavin Hopper was behind bars last night after being convicted of sex crimes against a schoolgirl.
A County Court jury yesterday found Hopper guilty of three counts of indecent assault and six of gross indecency, but not guilty of two further counts of gross indecency.
Hopper was stony- faced in the dock as the verdict of the jury of eight women and four men was read out after seven hours deliberation.
His wife, Karen, wept and shook her head in disbelief.
The victim's husband said outside court he and his wife were thankful for justice. "This whole process was undertaken in order for my wife to be heard and acknowledged," he said.
He said he was grateful to the media, whose coverage of the two- week trial prompted two witnesses to come forward and give evidence against Hopper.
The former student's sister- in- law said the woman, 33, could begin to move on with life. "A lot of damage has been done and there's a lot to repair. Now (she) can start healing," she said.
Hopper, 48, who pleaded not guilty to all charges, was accused of having a four- year sexual relationship with the former schoolgirl while he was a sports teacher at Wesley College from 1985 to 1988. She told the court she was 14 years old when the affair started and that it had destroyed her childhood.
The court earlier heard she and Hopper had had sex up to 300 times - in his school office and gymnasium, his sports car and his bedroom.
But the statute of limitations for laying sexual assault charges was then only one year and the time limit had long lapsed when the victim first came forward.
The jury convicted Hopper on nine of the 11 counts, all related to five distinct incidents when the girl was under 16 and in his care. Three of the incidents happened in the East Doncaster home he shared with his unsuspecting wife.
Defence lawyer, David Galbally, QC, said Hopper would appeal.
Yesterday's conviction came amid claims Hopper was at the centre of a separate $100,000 payout to another girl.
Melbourne's Herald Sun reports Hopper had a string of schoolgirl affairs while he was a physical education teacher at exclusive Wesley College.
The payment of more than $100,000 is believed to have been made in 1988, a year after the girl left the school, when she took legal action against Hopper and Wesley College.
Prosecutor Andrew Tinney said Hopper's crimes were serious and warranted an immediate custodial sentence.
He faces a maximum of five years in prison for each count of indecent assault The maximum penalty for gross indecency, where the victim is in the care of an authority figure, is three years. Hopper was remanded in custody for further plea and sentencing later.
