MORE Geelong people
are needed to help a
group list serial offenders
living in the region.
The Movement Against
Kindred Offenders,
MAKO, operates a
website that lists more
than 1000 convicted
pedophiles and rapists.
The list includes details
of the criminal, sometimes a photo, their offences and their known
address.
There are at least eight
offenders listed as having
lived in the Geelong region, in areas such as
Wallington, North Geelong, Herne Hill and Bellmont, but most of them
are still serving time in
prison.
Christina, a Geelong
member of MAKO, said
the free service was not
about naming and shaming the criminal but aimed
to prevent more offences
from occurring by providing information.
"Every parent should
look at the site, it's good
parenting," the mother of
two young girls who did
not want her surname
published said.
"It's like telling your
child to do their homework, this is homework for
parents.
"I'm not a victim, my
children aren't victims
and I'm doing everything I
can to help keep it that way.
"You dont have to be a
victim to care."
Child Protection Week
was celebrated this
month and last week an
18-year-old was in a Geelong court charged with
sexually penetrating a
five-year-old boy in public
toilets in Belmont.
As a MAKO member.
Christina helps promote
the service, encourages,
petitions, hands out leaflets and does letterbox
drops in suburbs known to
to be the home of a convicted pedophile or rapist.
She also helps research,
convicted criminals to put
on the website by going
through newspapers and
attending court.
Christina is only a new
MAKO member but
wants to form a Geelong
group (of MAKO) to help her research- Anyone wanting
more information can call
0419762286.
