Goldfields Paedophile Outed

A CONVICTED Kalgoorlie paedophile has become tne first WA person to be outed by a lobby group which aims to protect the community from sex abuse.
The 79-year-old says he is not worried that hundreds of people in his home town have been notified about his past and where he lives.
The man is the subject of South Australian-based lobby group MAKO's first "commurnly notification" in WA.
The piano teacher former Goldfields citizen of the year and ABC regional manager for 20 years spent 12 months in jail in 1995 after being convicted of 10 counts of aggravated indecent assault and two counts ol aggravated sexual penetration of a 13-year-old student.
But despite the conviction the man, who was stripped of a Queen's Honours MBE after the case, maintains his innocence.
Peter Morell co-founder of MAKO which stands tor Movement Against Kinored Offenders said 250 flyers had been sent to neighbours, schools councillors and kindergartens up lo 1000 in total were likely to be sent.
The flyers contain the man's photo, key aspects of his case, conviction sentence and the street where he lives.
Mr Morrell said the purpose of the community notification program was to prevent further victims of child sex abuse and raise awareness.
He was not aware of any problems in any of MAKO's 6O notifications around Australia.
"People thank us for this," Mr Morrell said. "We are about being vigilant not vigilantes "
The paedophile said he had received the flyer but was not worried because he had strong support from his wife and many friends in Kalgoorlie. He had seen a similar letter once before but in eight years had encountered only two negative reactions.
He would hold MAKO responsible if he was the subject of any reprisals.
"I am taking things as they come" he said "If there are any vendettas against me as a result ol this letter these people should be held responsible".
WA Council ol Civil Liberties president Peter Weygers said MAKO's flyers could incite fear and vigilante-style behaviour
It would also be easy to target the wrong person particularly as a person with the same surname lived nearby Mr Weygers said.
Acting Sen-Sgt Dave McAlpine, of Kalgoorlie said he was aware of the flyer but did not condone it in any way shape or form.
"They should realise that person's done their time and is entitled to get on with their life," he said.
While not illegal such flyers could lead to civil action for defamation.

Please Note: The person with the same name they refer to in Browns street, has actually been deceased for some time. It must also be noted there is never any mention from the civil libertarians, of the fact that a convicted paedophile is still teaching music to children........
