Sara Payne, whose eight-year-old daughter Sarah was murdered by a serial sex beast, said: "We need more money going into monitoring and tagging paedophiles, not into treatment centres. It has been proved you cannot cure a paedophile." NOTW 21/08/04

Attorney-General On Pedophile Alert Law

THE protection of British children from dangerous pedophiles is to be put above the right to privacy of paroled sex monsters there.
And the US already has laws that require parents to be notified when offenders move into their neighbourhoods after release from prison.
WA Attorney-General Jim McGinty would not be drawn on what he thought of WA parents' rights to be alerted when violent pedophiles moved into their suburbs.
He would say only: "Changes to the law of this kind would require serious and detailed consideration."
This week, British Home Secretary John Reid announced moves to give parents access to information about pedophiles living in their area.
He said the information "should no longer remain the exclusive preserve of officialdom".
"I'm sending my minister to America to discover the best way of ensuring the controlled release of information to the public," he said.
"The difficult thing is to get the balance right between protecting the public . . . and making sure you don't encourage vigilantism."
Mr Reid's announcement followed a six-year campaign for what has been dubbed "Sarah's Law".
It was named after eight-year-old Sarah Payne, who was
abducted and murdered by a convicted pedophile in July 2000.
This week, Sarah's mother, Sara Payne, said: "After six years of campaigning this is a tremendous breakthrough. I am delighted."
The Sun, whose sister newspaper The News of the World led the campaign for the law, said it meant child rapists such as Robert Excell -- deported to the UK from WA -- would not be able to "melt into the community".

Killer's 50 Years

LONDON: Roy Whiting, who received a life sentence for murdering Sarah Payne, 8, in July, 2000, must serve at least half a century in prison. Home Secretary David Blunkett's decision means Whiting, 43, will probably die in prison.
