Hundreds of Queensland child sex offenders will be added to a national register every year. State Cabinet has decided to join the national initiative to track offenders after they leave jail. The information will not be made available to the public. Police Minister Judy Spence says from January, anyone convicted of child offences will have to report their personal details within 28 days of release. "We expect that 1,500 Queenslanders will go on this register next year and thereafter we're expecting 600 will be placed on the register each year," she said. "We're very pleased to be linking in to the national model, so that the police here in Queensland have intelligence about criminals who have offended against children and their activities in this state. "Juveniles who have committed crimes will also go on the register but for half the reporting period from adults."
