Brisbane Paedophile Letter Drop Draws Criticism

Queensland's Attorney-General has been asked to intervene to stop the public outing of convicted paedophiles.
The South Australian group MAKO yesterday distributed letters to residents in the Brisbane suburb of Sherwood warning residents that a convicted sex offender lives in their street.
The leaflet warned residents that their child could be the next victim with the group offering to supply the name and address of the convicted sex offender at the request oflocals.
Australian Civil Liberties president Terry O'Gorman says the action is wrong and must be stopped.
"We call on the Attorney-Genral to amend the law if neceessary to stop this activity," he said.
"Once the person has got out of jail they ought to be entitled to get on with their life.
"This sort of lettebox drop not only effects the prisoner who's served his time but more importantly it badly impacts on that person's family."
