Offence/ Sentence:In August 1995 Hardy was sentenced to 11yrs jail with a minimum of 7yrs. He was found guilty of 5 counts of sexual abuse, and he pleaded guilty to 11 counts of indecent assault, one count of sexual intercourse without consent, and one count of attempted sexual intercourse. The abuse was on the same boy, when he was between the ages of 8 and 16yrs old.

Other:Hardy was a Marist school teacher
(a teacher of religious education at a Sydney college) and a trainee Catholic Priest. The Judge said Hardy represented.."every parents nightmare.. he was a trusted friend, teacher and religious example who fragrantly abused that trust". He also said Hardy's behaviour.." was persistent sexual abuse of a child by and adult". The abused ceased in 1986, when Hardy tried to fondle the victim (then 16yrs old), on a school retreat and the victim hit him.
